Elisabeth Sharp McKetta
writer / teacher /editor

Elisabeth Sharp McKetta grew up in Austin, Texas. She studied literature and creative writing at Harvard, Georgetown, and the University of Texas. Her PhD dissertation explored how writers use myth and fairy tales to mill personal narrative into storytelling.

Elisabeth’s writing has been published in Real Simple, Anderbo, bosque, Tattoo Highway, Texas Poetry Calendar, and others. She has spoken at various literary and performance events, including Boise’s Story Story Night and the Fiction 101 Reading at Rediscovered Books. Her play, “Zelda Speaks of Swans,” premiered in Austin (review in Austin Chronicle). She founded and edited Farfelu Magazine, a nonprofit journal that published 13 issues between 2005 and 2008. Currently she writes The Tuesday Writer, a weekly e-newsletter whose purpose is to create a space in people’s busy lives for creative work.

Elisabeth lives in Boise, Idaho, where she works in a backyard writing studio with a turquoise floor so that she can keep her feet properly in the sky when she writes. Her desk looks out on the house where she lives with her husband, daughter, and two dogs. In her free time, she enjoys hiking, reading, making new friends and drinking tea with old friends. Elisabeth leads writing workshops in Boise.
